Beauty Poll

How often do you wash your hair?

I have always washed my hair every day and my stylist told me I shouldn't be doing this.  Sometimes I feel like I am living in outer space because when I started asking around I found that most women don't wash there hair every day.  Is that the case with you?

So if you don't wash it every day, are there any "dry" shampoos that you use in between washes?

Re: Beauty Poll

  • I wash my hair everyday....it's just a habit.  Sometimes on the weekend I won't wash it maybe on a Sunday, but I don't like how it feels that Monday morning....I've tried the "Big Sexy Hair" dry shampoo and I like it except I don't like the scent...
  • I wash my hair every day.  I feel dirty if I don't.

  • I wash my hair every day as well - but only condition it maybe twice a week.  My hair gets very oily if I don't wash it every day.  I know as people get older, they don't get as oily and you can scale back.
  • My stylist told me that too, but I just can't do it! I'm a wash it every day girl, it gets super oily if I skip a day.  I haven't ever tried a dry shampoo though, maybe that would work...
  • I wash my hair every day too.  If I don't, I feel dirty.  My hair stylist gives me more crap about using box color than anything though!

  • I shower every day, but I wash my hair every other day.  If it's hot/summer or if I've been exercising, I will wash my hair daily, but usually it doesn't need it until the second day.
  • I went through a very rough time with my hair until I finally realized I should not be washing it everyday.  I have thicker, naturally curly hair and it would get greasy and completely dry at the same time, it was horrible.  I usually blow dry and straighten it everyday too.  After I started washing it every other day it has been 10x's better.  I've experimented with this a bit and found something that works pretty well.  Tresemme has a dry shampoo (like a dry hairspray almost) that I don't hate, but don't love yet.  Otherwise I wash it that morning and that night put some baby powder in my brush and brush through it.  I found that if I protect it before it gets greasy than the next day it will be great.  I just shower as normal and don't get it wet then.

  • Well, I'm the dirty one here!  Embarrassed

I go two days between washing usually.  I have long hair so I usually leave it down on washing day, then down or half up the next day, and half up or all the way up the next day (because by then it's getting too heavy to wear down).  When I'm doing alot of hard workouts and my head gets sweaty, I will go down to every other day or even every day.  But usually I'm not that crazy.

Your oils will naturally adjust to the amount you wash your hair.  (Case in point is DH who has dreads as some of you will remember -- his scalp is perfect and I'm not even going to say how often he washes his hair because thinking about that even grosses me out!)

  • I wash/condition every day because good dry shampoo is expensive and the spray always gets clogged! I saw that Tresemme has a dry shampoo that is $5 so I am planning on trying that, just haven't had a chance to pick any up.

I have to put something in my hair though because even though I know my hair will adjust, I work in too conservative an environment to come in with greasy hair until it does. Maybe when I'm home on maternity leave?

  • Well I feel like the dirty kid in class now... I definitely don't wash my hair every day.  I don't even shower every day.  I do wash my hair every time I shower though - it's hard not to get it wet!  I shower about every other day.  Some days 2 days in a row, but not often.

I only remember this because of my work-out schedule... Last week, I showered on Monday night, Tuesday night, Thursday night, Sunday mid-morning.  So, my hair got washed 4 days out of 7.

I don't know if it matters, but I do have long and VERY thick hair.  When I wash and blow dry (not style, just wash and dry), it takes an hour... minimum.

  • I'm an every-other-day-washer too.

I have really thick, curly hair that tends to get dry, so I have no problems with it getting greasy. It actually looks better and is easier to style on the second day. I've never tried an dry shampoos on it.

  • I have super oily skin and hair so I shower and wash my hair every day, especially when my hair is cut short.  When I have long hair I can get away with washing it every other day by wearing my hair up on the second day.  I've never tried the dry shampoos though.  I may have to give that Tresemme stuff a try.
  • After a lifetime of daily washing I've finally become an every other to every two day person. Admittedly, by the 3rd day my hair doesn't look great, but my job allows me to do things like wear braids and pigtails and still be considered a reasonable adult.
  • I also wash my hair every day, except maybe on the weekend. sometimes I skip showering on saturdays if I am really lazy.

I think its ok for us thick haired girls to wash every day.

  • As a general reference, one of my college roommates grew up in Europe (army brat). She washed her hair every 4 days. She showered every day, but only washed her hair every 4. She never looked dirty until the 3rd day or so. I thought it was weird at first but she never smelled :).

It was also far less strange than my freshman year roommate who wore the same underwear for her entire period. When I asked her why she said "because they are red, and I wear a pad anyway." Umm...yeah...

    O.....M.....G.....Ick!

That's almost as gross and my suite mate in college who would never use toilet paper and wash herself off in our shower....

Where do you find these people?!?!?

That's almost as bad as people who just plain pee in the shower.

EWWWWWWWWWW about the not using TP...I hope you disinfected the shower before you used it!

And Karen, I have no idea. The school placed us together...we could not have been more incompatible. But we survived and are still, shockingly, in communication today. Well, thanks to FB.

College dorm mates sure are strange - I had one who did not change her sheets for the whole year, and thought it was ok the "borrow" my undies! Ick!  I was like...no....its ok...you can KEEP those!

  • Almost every day. It depends on my workout schedule. If I work out, then I absolutely have to wash it (I break into a sweat looking at the treadmill) and I work out about 5 times a week. I'd say 5-6 times a week.
