Suggestions

I haven't ever posted on this board but I was wondering if you ladies had any suggestions. I asked on the pets board too.

We have 2 dogs and the larger female dog is killing our lawn. One part of it is so bad that we are going to dig it up and replace it with new sod this weekend. Is there anything I can do to help prevent this from happening? I try to go out and dilute her urine with water when she goes and I immediately pick up after both dogs. I'm not sure there is anything else I can do, is there? If you ladies have any ideas they would greatly be appreciated. TIA!

Re: Suggestions

  • We had the same problem with our lab.  We give him some pills that the vet recommended that reduce the acid in his urine and it's been OK since then. We get the pills at Petco, but I can't remember the name of them.
  • We also have this problem and recently read an article that Gipsum  works well for restoring the burn spots left by female dogs.  We found it at Menards for about $4 a bag and just sprinkled it on the dead spots.  Nothing has happended yet, but it might be worth trying.

  • I have seen stake-like plastic poles at PetSmart that advertise that they attract dogs to relieve themselves in a particular place.  I don't know how effective they are, but it might be worth a try.

I do know the pills work pretty well though.  Fortunately, my dog doesn't seem to like grass anymore and prefers the dirt and sidewalk.
