Need cheap vacation ideas
Apparently I need a vacation, or so my prof has told me because he said I looked like I was suffering from chronic stress. So come May, June he wants me to take a week off and get away from lab and try to (in his words) "de-stress." It's funny because I haven't been feeling as stressed out as I apparently look. But that aside, I haven't taken a vacation in I don't know how long. All my trips are work, competition, etc. associated so I am needing relaxing vacation ideas. I am very limited on funds, so the cheaper the better. TIA.

Re: Need cheap vacation ideas
are we talking within driving distance or are you willing to fly? if the latter, jetblue.com is having a sale, might want to check there.
if you prefer to drive, I would think a nice spa vacation would be awesome. I have no recs, but I'm sure you could find something in san antonio/houston/dallas.
ETA: ok, "spa vacation," might be $$$ - I would love to go to a nice resort with a good pool and book maybe 1-2 spa services. I'm sure you could get a good deal if you go on a weekday!
As much as I love vacations, they certainly don't help me de-stress. How about a staycation?
You can sleep in every day (get a discount hotel room on hotwire if you want to "get away" from your normal routine) and then go sight-seeing around town, spend time by the pool, get a couple spa services.
ETA: The Lakeway Resort and Spa is running a discount for May and June dates on Travelzoo right now.

anyone going with you? camping in big bend might be fun... DH has been wanting to do that for a while now. he also wants to drive out and see the marfa lights. what about new orleans (maybe not destressing, but you could drink enough to make you forget about work/school)? or go to the beach somewhere (port A for cheap or somewhere in florida - destin, daytona, clearwater, etc)?
not your typical relaxing vacay, but i bet vegas might be cool. you don't have to stay out late drinking and gambling! All the hotels are always running deals and they've got really awesome pools and tons of amenities. good food to be had too and if you go in May, i think the weather will still be good (at least i hope so - we're going in may and it'll be our first time)!
weather in may should be perfect!
roughcreek.com I think you'd really like it! Awesome resort, far enough away to feel like a get-away.
Our vacation this year is probably going to be going to Austin for a week. Woo-hoo!
