started seeds are getting real leaves.
the grow light is working wonderfully! but when and how do i thin out the sprouts? it is still too early to plant outside, do i transplant to a larger pot for now?
the cilantro is floppy still - should i start over with those?
sometimes all you really need in life is a pink wig.
Re: started seeds are getting real leaves.
You can thin any time. Just pull out some of the plants and throw them away if they look too close together to get apart later.
You can plant outside once it stops freezing at night. I don't know where you live - ask someone local if you can.
I wouldn't restart cilantro yet. You can replant directly outside if it doesn't make it.
If it's still that close to frost, I'd wait another week or two. Your other option is to plant them out, but cover them (like, with old blankets or sheets) at night when the forecast is near or below freezing. That buys a couple degrees of frost.
Good luck! Starting from seed is a whole new skill to figure out compared to just buying a flat of ready to go plants.
You'll need to harden the plants off before you plant them outside. If you move the seedlings from inside to outside you can stress them. I usually take 1-2 weeks and put the seedlings outside during teh day so they get used to the wind and ambient air temp. And definitely wait until after teh danger of frost to plant outside.
