We want to rip out our awful looking ground cover and replace it with sod. This stuff has probably been growing for 20+ years. In a recent storm we lost a tree that will give our yard more sunlight for grass to grow.
My question is... can I just till up the ground cover and then lay sod over the clean soil?? Not sure what to do. I don't want this ground cover growing back and coming through the new grass.
Advice?
Re: Ground Cover to Grass?
Physically pulling the ground cover out only probably wont do it. If you pull it out make sure to get all the roots, then till the soil breaking up things you might have missed. Depending on your budget, sod can be a very expensive option. Sod also requires a significant amount of babying depending on heat and location, and is also expensive to replace. If your not in a hurry and depending on your zone try seeding your yard with both a cool and warm season grass so that as one is dying out due to temperature the other stays lush and green.
GL!
