Holiday Bonuses

(Is that how you spell the plural of Bonus? Bonuses?)

The talk of Admin's Day and how some celebrate it and some don't got me thinking.... How many of you receive Christmas bonuses?

I've always been so jealous of people that receive them - I've never gotten one.  (LoL, and it's not like they make it up with giving me a higher salary!)  My husband receives one.  One year, he received $1000!

Re: Holiday Bonuses

  • Nothing here. At my previous employer I would get a merit bonus once a year around review time, but they were really shady with how they calculated it (which I learned later when one of my friends got into management).

Now that I'm a gov employee, I get my yearly cola (cost of living adjustment) and a bump up to the next step within my grade on my start-anniversary.

To be honest, I kind of like that my salary increases are predictable and guaranteed, although I am less motivated than I was when my pay increases and bonus were based on my work. With that said, if I'm sucking at my job, they can opt to not move me up the step, which has not happened thank goodness!

  • We get holiday bonuses, but they're not guaranteed or anything.  We've been lucky enough to keep getting them the past few years even with the economic downturn.  For 2008, I think it was $500.  For 2009, I think it must have been a % of my regular wage or something because it was a random number... less than $500, but I was still glad to get anything!

We get annual raises too (usually, I guess... I've gotten one each year).  They're usually a percentage.  After my 2008 review, I got 3% and after 2009, I got 2%.  I'm up for another review in June, so I have my fingers crossed! :)

  • I'm in the "you're all lucky to have a job" category- we're losing staff left and right, and they're increasing parking.
  • I got one last Christmas.  I think it was 1.5x a weekly paycheck, so it was pretty substantial.  As awkward as he is, my boss has been pretty generous with pay and bonuses, given how inexperienced I was when he hired me.  Although he hasn't been giving us the bonuses we're supposed to get when he settles big cases, we did get big Christmas bonuses.

    This exactly!

  • No holiday bonus but we do get an end of the year contract performance bonus that I didn't know about until I got it and was shocked by the total.  I really, really REALLY don't enjoy my job but the longer I'm there, the more perks are being revealed and I'm starting to feel like I should just suck it up and deal with the boring factor because it has great - no make that amazing- benefits.
  • I work for a really big company so they can't do anything huge like that for so many employees but we do get to choose from a list of christmas gifts.  I think they're all around $20 -$30 but it's nice that they do something.

  • A previous law firm that I worked for went all out for secretaries and paralegals on Admin Assistants' Day.  Everybody (we're talking about 45 people) got $50 AmEx gift cards, and they threw a delicious hot fudge sundae party for everyone.

We don't get holiday bonuses where I work now, I'm in the same boat as Juangela...and I agree with her, I kinda like that way of doing things!

  • I've worked for three universities and Sallie Mae and have not once gotten a holiday bonus.  In fact, my current position for the state equals no pay increases (not even cost of living adjustments) for at least 3 years due to the economy.
