I got a call about the results from my biopsies from my EGD/colonoscopy. They didn't have to take any biopsies during the colonoscopy because everything looked normal. However, they took several from the EGD. Most showed signs of reflux (which really isn't a surprise) but the biopsy of my ileum (the small intestine just below the stomach) shows all of the markers for Celiac disease. Now if this provides answers and I can get back to some type of "normal" I will do whatever it takes but man will it stink. Basically its an autoimmune issue where your body cannot tolerate gluten which is in EVERYTHING. I go back May 3rd for follow up tests. I am really really trying not to get discouraged and depressed but its tough. I just wonder if it will ever end
Re: Got my biopsy results :(
::hugs::
I hope you get the answers you need to get back to normal.
ugh, i'm sorry
if you want an excellent resource on this, page RockLobster on WFD or H&F. she's occasionally on MM too. whenever someone asks about it on MM, she's the "go to" person.
This! My sister has a wheat and gluten sensitivity (can't have it at all, but it's not celiac disease -- not sure what that's all about, but anyway) and my neighbor has celiac disease. It's an adjustment for sure, but it is definitely do-able. My local grocery store has started carrying gluten-free pasta, and a lot of places like Trader Joes and Whole Foods carry a variety of gluten-free items.
In addition, my sister has become such a creative cook now, and so many of the wheat/gluten free dishes she makes are delicious! She orders certain foods from the Internet as well -- she made a batch of gluten-free brownies (from a mix) when she last came to see me that were really good. I can find out the Web site where she orders stuff from, if you like.

I am very thankful that there are now so many gluten-free options when shopping but I so wish that I lived near a Trader Joes or Whole Foods instead of out in the sticks! That would make it so easier! I have already begun to scour websites but any information you could give me murph would be greatly appreciated!
The name of the bakery is Sami's bakery in Tampa. Here is their Web site. My sister says that while they offer a lot of gluten-free products, they're not an entirely gluten-free bakery, so depending on how severe your sensitivity is you may not want to order bread from there. She thinks the best bet for true gluten-free bread is still Trader Joes or Whole Foods. (Maybe you could make a special trip, stock up and freeze some?) But Sami's should have some other GF things that might interest you.
One of my co-workers also eats a lot of gluten-free stuff, and she gets a lot of recipes from this blog. She brought in some banana muffins one day and they were really tasty!
GL, and I'll let you know when I hear of other GF resources.

HUGS sweetie.
My BFF is Celia as is her mother and her two little boys. It was a big change at first but they are doing so well now and there are a LOT of products on the market that make it a little easier.
I've even learned to make a few things and I experiment with recipes for her all the time.
It's tough, it is, but the difference in how they feel was unbelievable.
GL.
I rarely check in over here, but happened to see this. I wanted to let you know that after YEARS of pain/discomfort/other general issues, my mom was diagnosed with Celiac disease. Since she's changed her diet, she feels about 1000000000% better all over - not just with stomach issues she was having.
This is a pretty neat book that might be helpful. (http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/1599951886/pdxbookscom/) We checked it out at our local library for my mom.
I know you have other health issues as well, and I don't want to dismiss those, but hopefully with a new gluten-free diet some of your ongoing pain will ease or go away.
ETA: My mom has had good luck at Food Lion (of all places!) when she's not near a Trader Joes or Whole Foods. Walmart also has a lot of gluten-free items and label all of their brand food with a "Gluten-Free" label if it is. Good luck!
Hey! I'm a celiac! Welcome to the club
I was very depressed at first, but the minute I kicked gluten out of my life (and went through a withdrawal period of not feeling so well for a few week), I started to feel a million times better. I won't go into my symptoms, but not being in pain every day was completely worth seeking out the gluten free aisle at my grocery store and learning to cook different recipes. I feel a lot healthier and I didn't have to sacrifice baked goods or anything.
My husband eats gluten free with me at home and we have a great time finding restaurants with gluten free menus. TONS of restaurants have them! If they don't, restaurants (especially chefs) are becoming extremely aware of gluten allergies. If you are nice about it, they are even nicer about cooking your food separately from other people's. You still run a risk of contamination from eating out, but once you find restaurants in your area that you trust, you'll be fine.
Honestly, I don't even crave items with gluten anymore because of the way I know they would make me feel. I can have bread that tastes just as good without the bad stuff in it. Get a bread machine and buy Pamela's bread mix... it's amazing!!!! I get it at Whole Foods. Also, google "gluten free cooking" and you'll find a lot of blogs with recipes from celiacs. There are so many recipes I have bookmarked that I want to try, I don't even have the time.
Anyway, I hope I've helped in some way. You're going to feel much better now that you know the root of your pain. There are many of us out there with you and probably a support group in your area.
I am coming in on this late, I'm sorry
.
I know you're going in for your follow up tests today and I wanted to wish you luck. I hope everything turns out alright, and if it doesn't and you need or want to talk about it, please know that I'm here to listen.
