Odd Neighbor Text

Last night, Greg and I were sitting in the living room watching TV just before dinnertime.  His phone goes off, signalling a text message.

He opens it and says "Oh, it's J [our neighbor, her backyard backs up to the side of ours.]"  This is the neighbor that left us a mini bottle of tequila, comes over sometimes to drink (always bringing us wine or beer),.. generally pretty cool.  (Three kids, btw, 22 & 18 year old sons, 15 year old daughter.)

She's been kind of MIA lately.  She brought over some muffin tops ~last week maybe?  (Which was a pleasant surprise... she claims she doesn't really bake anymore.)

The text (just to Greg, not both of us)? "Tipsy and pants too tight. Not a good combination."

Hmm

I kind of laughed it off, like WTF Huh? - drunk text much?!  He was less thrilled, like WTF HmmIndifferent.

I saw her number in my phone when I was just scrolling through and now a few other tidbits are filtering in.  She claims she doesn't text much... can barely use her phone.  When she has texted previously, it's been misspelled like she's not good at texting. But this "tipsy text" was perfect.

AND... she knew I'd be out of town around this time of month, when I went to Boston.  She'd said to us "Well, if you're bored, come on over and we can have a few beers. [Quick look to me] If you're okay with that, I mean.. it's entirely dependent on your comfort level.  I'm so not a threat."  I genuinely laughed it off and told her I didn't care if he went over... no worries, you know?  (If he was going to screw around on me with another woman, I doubt it'd be a lady nearing 50.)

It's just all becoming more and more odd.

Re: Odd Neighbor Text

  • Yeah Greg definately needs to either ignore her or set her straight. He's a nice guy so I'm sure he doesn't want to be rude to her, but he doesn't want to give her the wrong impression either. That is kind of creepy though and also super random. DId he send a message back?
  • No... he asked me like 3 times "What am I supposed to say to that?!"  He finally asked if he should just ignore it, and I said yes.

Now I'm tempted to send her a text myself and say "Did you drunk text my husband last night? LOL He was kind of creeped out you told him your pants were too tight!"

  • Yeah, that is def. coming a little close to that line you shouldn't cross.

Poor Greg and you.  Hopefully she was just being stupid and doesn't have other intentions.  Who knows, maybe one of her kids grabbed her phone and texted perfectly.
