Good ground cover under mature trees???
First spring in new home and it needs alot of landscaping. I thought it would be cheaper to do ground cover under my mature trees instead of trying to figure out what plants would thrive where...
What is a good ground cover to put under mature trees with large roots?

We planted some Big Blue liriopes

Under our large trees, we have jasmine and ajuga as ground cover. There are also hydrangea, irises, ferns, and bushes I haven't identified yet.
Lantana is gorgeous ground cover, but it needs full sun (I think).
MULCH. Shedded natural bark mulch is the winner here by a HUGE margin.
If you MUST plant something, plant early bulbs, such as Crocus, Narcissus or Daffodil, because they are dormant most of the year (when the tree is most desperate for water) and there is not much competition for resources between the two.
