Need help identifying this weed.

I live in northern Illinois and have checked the U of I extension website in an attempt to identify this weed but have had no luck. I have maybe 5-6 of them spread randomly around my front yard only. I have never seen anything like them. Thanks!

  • Can you tell me how big that is?  It kind of looks like a yucca plant, but I can't tell if it's big enough.
  • It's looking like yucca to me, too.

  • This particular one is about nine inches tall. When I first noticed it when the weather started to get warm it was maybe 3-4 inches. The other ones are under six inches.

    Your picture is really blurry.

Does it perhaps look kind of like this?

  • Yes, a smaller version of that. The leaves have a little bit of fuzz on them near where they meet the base of the plant. I just tried to pull the big one up and it has a very deep tap root.

  • I think its safe to say that it's a yucca plant, not a weed at all. It's an ornamental and I can't tell you what color that one would be but they do flower.

  • Thanks for the help identifying it. I'm not sure how it came to be in the middle of my yard, but I'm going to have to dig it up because my HOA will have a fit if we just have a plant randomly growing in our yard. Maybe I can move it somewhere else in one of the gardens.
