need daycare recommendations - NH County

my DS is 10 1/2 months old and up until this point we have paid for in-home care.  I feel like he is ready to start socializing with other infants his age.  I am looking for a daycare center in Wallingford, North Haven or Hamden.

I would like to find a center that is more of a learning center and provides a lot of individual care.  I'm not really looking for a place that tries to incorporate a rigid schedule (he's too young for that).

Any recommendations?  Cost would not be an issue because I'm sure it can't cost more than what we are paying now ($420 for 3 days/week)

Re: need daycare recommendations - NH County

  • Are you seriously paying $420 for only 3 days a week????  OMG, that's outrageous.

We use Early Learning Center at Gaylord, run by the YMCA.  Our other top choice was the daycare center at Choate, also run by the YMCA.  I really liked both of them and am happy with them thus far.  We transition to the toddler room next week so we'll see how that goes.  We pay $53/day (2 days/week) for the infant room and it's about the same for toddlers.  I think F-T is around $250/wk, slightly lower than the P-T rate x 5.

On your request for no schedule, you might have a hard time with that given your son's age.  Virtually every daycare center we looked at in the Wallingford area adopts a schedule once the kids enter the 1 y.o. point.  Our infant room schedule is completely child-driven, as are most, but all the ones I looked at start a schedule for toddlers.  I'd start making calls to places on that issue first b/c I think it may be a challenge.  GL.

  • yup, we pay an arm and a leg in Wallingford!  It's crazy.  I thought it was totally worth it when he was 4 months old but now he is walking and isn't so fragile.  Plus, I think he's bored at home everyday.  I think he will love the interaction and we will love the budget cut!

thanks for the info.  I emailed the Y to find out more about their daycare setup.

    Big Smile

  • kindergarden learning center in Meriden!  They are amazing! I cannot say enough good things about them.  All my kids attended this daycare Until they went to first grade!
