Flame away, but it is BASEBALL ETIQUETTE that you NEVER run across the mound as a baserunner. I learned that in TEEBALL. A-Rod's actions were disgraceful and the fact that he is acting like he was in the right makes me LIVID. I find it so disgusting that a team so entrenched in baseball history like the Yanks will allow him to defend his actions and not sit him down and explain why he's wrong. DESPICABLE!
I would have been annoyed that it had happened, but if he would have at least said, "I wasn't thinking, I fuucked up, I'm sorry," I wouldn't be so pissed. Instead, he said, "He just told me to get off his mound. I was a little surprised. I'd never quite heard that. Especially from a guy that has a handful of wins in his career ... I thought it was pretty funny actually." Future hall-of-famer or not, he is a jackass.
Re: Why can't A-Rod ever admit he's wrong??
I think both you and Braden are way overreacting here.
I honestly don't think Braden's actions during the game were appropriate (hence why I didn't mention him at all in the OP), but neither were A-Rod's. My issue is that A-Rod STILL will not say he shouldn't have done it.

Oy. Maybe I am just irrationally annoyed at this. I just remember from all my years playing baseball/softball that you never ran across the mound as a baserunner or even heading to your position from the dugout. Maybe it is just me.

I get fired up over basketball stuff. I'm just not as big of a baseball fan - that's probably why I'm just like, eh. But if something like that [hypothetically] were to happen in basketball, I'd get fired up, too. I see people who break unwritten rules as obnoxious. That's just me though.
Haha, thanks! I am a HUGE baseball fan, so maybe that's why I'm so annoyed. I can respect A-Rod's skills as a player, but when he does stuff like this I just want to smack him upside the head. YOU GET TO PLAY BASEBALL AS YOUR JOB!! AND YOU'RE GOOD AT IT!! Ugh.

I went home at lunch to catch up, and that's ALL they talked about. Way to run something in the ground. Sheesh. I think that was the only thing they really talked about besides the NFL draft.
And really the only thing they talked about concerning the draft was Tebow, so that was being ran in the ground, too.

IDK, I played for years (t-ball as a kid through summer ball and varsity fastpitch) and never once was told this.
I honestly think people are overreacting because it's A-Rod. If it was anyone else no one would give a damn.
I played softball for years as well... scholarship and everything.
I don't ever remember be told that either, but I do know that I just didn't do it, and don't really remember anyone else. However, I don't think it would be that big of a deal..
It certainly shouldn't be all that ESPN has time to talk about.
That's what bugs me. He's a douchebag and he should have done the sportsman like thing and if he had nothing nice to say about it (I don't think what was said to him was okay so I can understand if he's not willing to apologize) he should have just said it's a private matter and then no further comments. He amped up the level of intensity of the situation by turning it into a pissing match. How embarassing.
Are you serious???
