Mac vs. PC

So I need a new laptop. The screen is coming off the base, speakers are making noise when on mute (a lovely crackle every time i press a key), headphone jack is done...shuts off whenever...yeah. sucks.

I want a Mac so badly. But the price tag kills me. Is it really worth it to get a lower end one? I'm talking base model macbook.

PCs are so cheap right now but i'd like to get more than 2-3 years out of it.

It will be used mostly for business use so I need to run adobe, illustrator-esque program and photo-editing software but also internet, iwork, etc.

help? :)

Re: Mac vs. PC

  • Go mac girl! For real, you won't be sorry.

The warranty is great, Apple is so easy to deal with as far as customer service, they don't get viruses and have a very long life. We just sold our 12" iBook that is just about 6 years old. I bought MH the iPad for his birthday.

I have 2 iMacs in my office and they pump out the design programs like nobody's business. LOL

It is more upfront, but less in the long run.

See, this is what I'm thinking. Between money I spent on batteries, repair, virus software, etc., I could just do it up front and be done. Harder to swallow, though!

And the iPad...I'm planning on getting one this summer for when I do my shows! Do you like it?

My in-laws have purchased 4, i kid you not, 4 laptops in the same time as we had our iBook. Crazy, right? MH kept telling them to just bite the bullet and do it.

To be honest, MH is hoarding the iPad. I don't get to play much. But it is pretty sweet. So far, so good! You could also get an iPhone for your shows too. I have a virtual terminal on mine for an cc transactions.

  • Oh! (can you tell how into Macs i am?) LOL

The iBook still runs great. We just sold it simply because of the iPad. We don't need both.

  • You rock! I think I'm sold (you don't get a commission, do you? Can I pass along your name?! haha)

I am considering an iPhone if they go to Verizon...we have sprint right now but in the city, at&t is just terrible so I'm stuck. I love the idea of having the virtual terminal...probably makes life so much easier! I want the iPad for displaying photos of other work I've done since it's so slim.

And tell your DH to share! ;)

  • Ha! No, no commission here. I just really believe you get what you pay for and i've had such great luck.
  • My next computer will definitely be a macbook.  DH got one from work when he got his new job and I LOVE it.  It's super great.  He got to get all the bells and whistles since they paid for it, and since he runs fairly intense modeling software for his work.  Check out the refurbished ones they have for sale on their website, it's what DH says I should get once my PC bites the dust.  And, I can't wait for the iPhone to come to Verzion, I'm so there.  Typically right now I have my iPod touch in one hand and phone in the other, so I can't wait to have one gadget that does it all.

  • Mac!

I have a work Macbook and a personal Mini; Calvin has a personal Macbook.  We're huge fans.  They are a little more expensive, but a baseline Macbook's stats exceed entry level Windows laptops - and they last.  My Macbook is 3 years old, I think, and doing well.

Spend the money on Apple Care, though.  It's worth it if anything ever goes wrong.

  • MAC ALL THE WAY! I have had my Mac for 5 years and I haven't had to repair it once. You don't have to pay for virus protection so that saves a lot too. I love my Mac I will never go back to PC again! They are WORTH the money!
