XP from 9 to 5: re: professional references
I worked for the same organization for close to 6 years. I had to leave for medical reasons. My surgeon has now (finally) cleared me to return to work. There is an opening in one of the offices I worked closely with, but not for, that I am very interested in. If I got this job it would be working for one of my professional references, as well as 2 others. Is it okay to still list him as a reference?
Also, should I email or call him to let him know I have submitted my application and resume for this job?

First off, good luck with the job!
If it were me, I don't think I would list him as a reference. It might put him in a very uncomfortable position to be someone who has to decide on whether you get the job AND someone who is supposed to give you a good recommendation.
There also might be a sense of candidate favoritism from the other bosses if they see him down as one of you references. If you don't include him as a reference, he will still most likely give his favorable opinion on you without making it awkward.
Is there someone else you can give as an alternate to him?
