The explosion on the oil rig? Anyone know anyone involved? Have they evacuated other platforms? The news so far has been pretty vague.

Honestly, I've been trying not to watch. My dad works on one of the platforms out there and it just hits too close to home for me. He's fine of course but it just puts all of those "what if" questions in my head. I did hear that they were going to call off the search for the rest of the missing crew today. Very scary how dangerous the job is. My heart goes out to those families.

I don't know anyone who was on it, thank goodness.  My heart just breaks for those people that were though, and their families!

Mrs Spell, sorry that this hits so close to home. I think we all get lulled into a sense of security and then wehn something does happen it jolts us back.

Have they evacuated or done anything different on the other platforms?

Apparently the ones missing were on the rig floor, so unfortunately it's unlikely they survived.  Haven't heard that anything is being done differently on other platforms, but then again that doesn't mean it's not.  The rig was supposedly inspected this winter and passed, so it's a freak accident.  They do happen.

My aunt's fiancee is one of the missing 11.

they were to be married in July.

She already went through losing my uncle 7 years ago.

now this.

she is a hysterical mess.

the president of the company got her and her fiancee's family together yesterday to discuss it.

My brother-in-law's best friend's brother is one of the 11 missing. He is the one in Mississippi that the lawsuit was filed on behalf of. The man has a wife and 3 year old child at home. It is terribly sad.
