HE washer warrenty?

We just had our new HE washer & dryer delivered today and the delivery guy told us we'd void our warrenty if we used our homemade detergent.

Has anyone had experience with this? I don't want to call and have it on record that that is what we will use. From what I've read here and other places, the homemade recipes are ok with HE machines... but it just makes me nervous that they won't honor the warrenty.

Any advice? Thanks!

Re: HE washer warrenty?

  • We just bought an HE washer. I use my liquid homemade detergent in it. I use 1/4 of a cup, but I may drop it down. I also plan on running vinegar through as  fabric softener, but we are almost out of vinegar.

I hope it doesn't void the warranty, but then again, it also sounds like a crock. (I know that you cannot use regular detergent in HE machines because they need low sudsing detergent).

  • I work in the appliance industry and I have never heard of that. What brand is it?

  • Kenmore-- I haven't read the warrenty yet as I'm still at work. I'm hoping it's just bad information from the delivery person.
  • I emailed my Whirlpool rep (Whirlpool makes Kenmore). I will let you know what he says.

    You are awesome! Thank you!

  • np! my rep forwarded this to our district service manager since he had never heard of it either. this was the reply from the district manager:

No issue with home made detergent as long as it is low suds.

  • That's fabulous! I really appreciate it. My husband was nervous and has actually been impressed by a homemade detergent.
  • My husband is in appliance sales and he is dead set against me trying it, he thinks it won't be good for the machine. But I talked at length with the head of our service dept about it (explained what ingredients I would use, etc) and he thought it would be fine.. and possibly better than commercial detergents.. again, as long as it doesn't over suds.

  • Thanks for finding this out! Good to know!
