What color????

Okay so I've been bugging DH about painting our master bedroom, and last night he was like "ummmm no not this weekend blah blah blah".  AND then today at lunch he was on the phone with his mom and I told him to get off and eat and he snapped at me.  SO then I gave him the silent treatment and worked my psychological guilty powers....well they worked because he just texted me and said "want to paint the bedroom this weekend???"  Stick out tongue

SO what color???? I need ideas!

This is our bedding...

Hotel Collection "Frame" Bedding

And our sheets are a silvery/metallic light tinted purple?  Does that make sense?  Our bed is black.  What do you think will look good?

Re: What color????

  • Lavender...a cool lavender though, not warm.
    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • I agree with munkii. I also think you could do some cool things with candles against a dark shade of blue/grey (that's blue/grey one color, not "blue or gray").  I guess it depends on what direction you want to go with the room.

    EDIT: Like this

    image

  • Munkii would you like to come "work your magic" and help??? Big Smile
  • You could maybe pull off a cool (very muted too!) green with the purple tint of the sheets.

Here's my paint picking method - if you can swing it, bring in the smaller pieces of fabric from your bedding (pillow cases work the best) and stand in front of the samples and just sorta scan it with your fabric samples.  In my experience, I find that certain colors just really "pop" when you've got them all together.  Beats making two trips to get samples and then going back to get paint!  :)  Have fun - I love painting!

I agree! I think that'll look really nice.

I would love to!  I'm sure you'll do just fine, though.

  • I was also thinking light green

  • I was thinking purple or green, so I'm glad munkii suggested purple. Big Smile  If you go to this link hopefully you can see the purple room with the green chair.  I like both....  Anyone like?

  • I'd be torn between a light green or a purple.  I had a bedroom once where I had a wall that was almost all mirrored closet doors and I did the wall across from that a rich, dark purple and the other walls a more neutral color (kinda creamy tan which might not work for you, but something else neutral would!) which could be a possibility too.
  • This is the thing: you really need to know how you translate color before making your decision.  Yeah, certain combinations look great together but that doesn't mean they feel right to you.

For example, some people are suggesting green: I love green (I love most color, though).  Although I love green, I probably wouldn't put it in my bedroom unless it was a blue-green simply because I think of life when I think of greens.  When I think bedroom, I think of romantic, secluded, mellow, relaxing, etc, and green doesn't translate that way to me.  However, it might for you!

    Does that make sense?

HOW did you do this?????  Can you try a light purple????  Or a light tiffany green???  Man you ladies are so good...

  • I think a really gray lavender color would be so pretty.  Then you could bring in some vintage mercury glass pieces (like candle sticks or other tchotchkes) and it would be really pretty. Very peaceful, very zen. Personally I'd like that better than green, but I used to have a mint green and dark purple bedroom, so I guess I'm just over those colors.

TOTALLY makes sense.  I like the "tiffany" green color (but lighter) or there was this color called "Taboo" ....but I think a light purple is very calming and romantic.  Light and airy....romantic....

  • I wish I could help but I am the worst at color combos.  But I prefer lighter colors for walls over dark... they make the room seem larger IMO.

Oooohhhh vintage mercury glass...so pretty!  I wanted to frame a few of our wedding pics in black and white...blow them up, then frame them in silver...ok now I'm getting really excited... Big Smile

Thanks ladies for all of your ideas/feedback!!!  Once again you are all the bomb diggity!

  • I'm not positive what tiffany green looks like but a google search gave me these.  Are either of them close?

It's not tiffany blue, but it's my favorite of the ones you put up!

    Gold star for you!

  • I like that one too.

    It's Sherwin-Williams "Purple Passage (6551)" btw.

  • Found another 'tiffany green'.

  • If you're wanting to go with a lighter shade, I am liking either of the top 2 colors here as a possibility:

Couldn't agree more, and this is what I'll be going for in our new apartment... once we move and find one, that is. Embarrassed

Just for my own curiosity, could you try it with the color I posted above? (Is that even possible?)

  • Thanks so much ladies for the ideas/help!  Mikesboo you get a gold star!!!!  Actually seeing the bedding with the colored wall really helps!  Thank you!
