Awesome gardening day. I finally did it!

I've NEVER gardened before and I've been doing tons of research and talking with people. I finally just needed to dive in and start going for it. I went around our yard this morning and took a bunch of pictures for our "before" shots.

We went to a local nursery as well as Home Depot. We were able to fill our entire front bed in front of our windows. Of course now I can't remember all the names of everything. I know we got snap dragons, dianthus, ranunculus, and a few other flowers (need to look up the names now). We also bought 3 bouganvilla vines and trellis, so we'll be putting those in the ground soon!

My big project of the day was to try and revitalize the rose bushes that were not trimmed back last year (we moved in on Feb 1). I spent the whole afternoon trimming back the bushes and getting rid of all the hips. I'm pretty sure I'll need to trim more--I'm having my friend come over next week who is a rose expert, but I wanted to play it safe for now! We also bought fertilizer and mulch for the beds--so that will be done tomorrow. We had such bad weeds in the rose bed that they were strangling some of the bushes and displacing the brick borders! It was unbelievable.

I hope to be posting pics soon.

  • good job starting.....
  • Sounds great!  Can't wait to see what you did.
  • I can't wait to see the before and after pictures.  Especially with the rose bushes.  In my blog I talk about my struggles with rose bushes -same story we moved in last Feb and so last summer the bushes were OUT.OF.CONTROL!
  • Good job! I can't wait to see pics.
