Good *dry* detergent recipe?

I would LOVE to make my own detergent, it sounds fun and eco friendly. But I would really enjoy making dry detergent. Like powder detergent.

so any ideas? good blogs to read ? I'm going to google, but I wanted first hand experience

Re: Good *dry* detergent recipe?

  • Check out Tip Nut. I tried some dry ones before we moved to liquid. The dry ones were fine, but DH does the laundry and he prefers liquid.

  • here is my recipe:

    1c of baking soda

    1c of borax

    1c of washing soda

    1 bar of soap grated.

for the soap do not use soap with moisturizer. i use dr. bronner's castile bar soap. it comes in a variety of scents.

i know some people use oxyclean instead of baking soda.

  • The Eco Friendly Family blog has a recipe. i haven't tried it yet, but eventually would like to. It looks like it is similar to the one BlueMnM posted.
  • We use the one from this blog.  I like it because it's really easy to make a liquid one out of the powder I've already made.  Jeff likes liquid, and I refuse to make a detergent that requires heating and stirring.  You just add water to the powdered stuff and shake it.  I can handle that.  Wink
  • Oh, and I've found that really big Mason jars work well for storing the powdered stuff in.  I bet it would work especially well if you hit up McMenamin's for a jar of your favorite microbrew, drink it at home on the couch klassy style straight out of the jar, wash the jar, and then make detergent the next day.  Not that I'd know or anything.  Big Smile
