I think peonies are so beautiful and would love to get some plants, but I'm having a hard time finding them to purchase. I'm not opposed to buying online. Any suggestions?

Re: where to buy peonies?

I personally would buy them at a local nursery. Most nurseries will offer a one year guarantee, so if they don't come back, you can get a new one. Peonies are picky about planting depth--if you plant them too deep, they will not bloom. I would buy either in the fall (cheap prices and good time to plant) or around here, they go on sale right after they finish blooming, since everyone wants them when they are in bloom (so also cheap). The downside of planting now is that you have to "babysit" them through the summer...if you plant in the fall, they will go through their dormant period and be much more established next spring.

The most MM way to get peonie plants is to get someone with a plant who is separating it to give you some eyes next fall.
My dad gave me some roots with eyes from him garden last fall and those plants are doing way better than the two I have had for 3 years now from Spring Hill and they are all in the same location
