Hi all! Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful way to get fresh fruits & veggies. I picked up my first basket today & split it with my MIL.
I was thinking it might be neat for those of us who are doing this to swap recipe ideas for the weeks pick up. Anyone else interested?
Re: Bountiful baskets
Oh man, my basket rocked! I have pics in my blog... but the Mexican pack was well worth the extra $6.
I'm thinking about doing some sort of Mexican inspired chili this week.
We also got the Mexican pack, as well as a million tortillas. Chili sounds like a good idea. I think we are going to throw the squash on the grill tonight, buy some decent fish to grill too and have fish tacos. H will make some tomatillo salsa and I'll make some guacamole.
I am going to make this recipe with some of the potatoes to go with the swiss chard or spinach sometime this week. Any other creative potato ideas? I'm thinking potato tacos one night.

I'm totally pissed I didn't get the tortilla pack! I thought it was just 3 dozen for $10...and since I make my own, I didn't think that was worth it for me. Then I reread that it was way more than that. I'm pissed!
Mmmm Potato tacos sound awesome! I think we'll do that tonight!
Potato recipes - this is my favourite one...and what I made with our swiss chard last week http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/10/roasted-garlic-new-potatoes/
Bountiful Baskets is a local food co-op! I've posted my baskets the last two weeks in my blog so you can see photos of what kind of stuff there has been. Here is the co-op website too http://www.bountifulbaskets.org/

In my basket I received:
swiss chard
white potatoes
tomatoes
blackberries
apples
cantoloupe
romaine lettuce
celery
bananas
We also got the tortilla pack and they are absolutely wonderful!!!!!!!!

I am so excited. I just made my account and will be getting our first basket this week! I love the pictures on you blog Jaye! When I see them it makes me even more excited about joining.
Also, is volunteering required also how does that work do any of you know?
volunteering isn't required. I haven't volunteered yet, but I'm thinking about doing it next time. From what I've heard, you just show up an hour early and help distribute the produce. This Saturday there seemed to not be very many volunteers at my location. Some locations have too many people show up to volunteer, so it depends on your area.
Awesome, thank you so much... i might check my location out for a bit and then see. but I think it would be fun to volunteer.
One more question.... how do you know where your pick up location is, Will it tell me when i checkout based off my address?
You pick your location. So I suggest that before you go through the order process, check the locations page and find the one closest to you. Then when you order there will be a drop down box to pick the location.
Oh ok. there is one about 2 minutes from my house I was pretty excited about that part so I just wanted to make sure I did everything right. lol I get nervous when trying something new because I don't want to forget anything... It must be an OCD thing because I will double check things like a 100 times
Thank you for all you help with answering my questions
My basket was a bit different than the rest. I received cilantro, kale, peaches, bananas, celery, lettuce, carrots, avocados, and tomatoes.
Anyone know what to do with Kale?
So if you like Olive Garden and the Zuppa Toscana maybe try this with your Kale.... I am not sure if you are a meat eater though...

Sorry I don't know how to make things a clicky.
MissFallon --Sounds like yours was the organic basket not the conventional.
You can saute the kale up with olive oil and garlic, or spritz with garlic and oil and bake to make chips. It's also a great as an addition to soups/stews.
Try it! If you don't, you'll never know if you like it or not. I promise, it won't kill you!
Pinky promise!
