3M Scotch Pet Hair Eraser Green Alternative?

Does anyone know of a green alternative for the Scotch Pet Hair Eraser? Or does washing the pads work (I haven't tried)? Yes, I do vacuum the couches, etc., but the dog hair really sticks into fabric and the vacuum doesn't get it out. Normally, I rarely use the pet hair eraser (I have a large dog, so I accept the hair that the vacuum leaves behind), but we are trying to sell our house right now, so I am on a constant mission to banish dog hair. I'd love to stop going through so many pet hair eraser pads.

Thanks!

  • We purchased a rubber type sponge at Jo Ann Fabrics that pulls the hair up as you rub the furniture.  It works pretty good, it's reusable, and washable.  I have also seen similar sponges at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

I just googled pet sponge and a few brands came up.  The Pet Select Magic Pet Hair Remover is similar to what I have.

  • Thanks! I'll look for that next time I'm out.
  • this is going to sound lame, but we cover our furniture w/ cheap fleece blankets from Ikea (that are like 3.99) when we don't have company over.

We just had a sofa and chair reupholstered and I would rather the dogs (and kids for that matter!) not be on the new fabric, so I just bought like 7 or 8 of these blankets.  I throw them in the wash and all of the dog hair is gone.  I whip them off before company comes over- it's quicker than vacuuming or using anything else...

We have the same blankets :) but our dog likes to chew them up instead of lie on them.  She's only allowed on one couch, though, so it's mostly cat hair we deal with.  After vacuuming we use one of those velvet-ish looking bruses that pick up hair in one direction only (know what i'm talking about?) and it works great.  It's slow because you have to remove the hair from the brush, but it works well (on car upholstry, too!).

  • I use the Pledge Fabric Sweeper.  It says its supposed to be disposable, but once the container gets full I just carefully pop off the lint rollers, clean it out, put the rollers back in, and it works fine.  I've had mine for almost a year, and I have no plans on throwing it away.
  • We invested in a Dyson animal vacuum a few years back and that works great.  It even gets the cat hair off the microfiber couch which is a small miracle.

  • I haven't bought it yet, but I am thinking of trying this:

It is so crazy that they made this a 'disposable' product!  Once I found out about that part, I dismissed the idea of buying it.  It is good to know that it can be made reusable -- thank you!  I did a quick search on Amazon, and it sounds like others have figured out this trick too.  http://www.amazon.com/Johnson-Pledge-Fabric-Sweeper-Hair/dp/B001P0SJ16/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1272301689&sr=1-1 Of course, the company notes on the packaging "Do not try to empty or disassemble."  to sell more of them, I suppose!

This is what we use/do also! So simple to take the rollers off and reuse.

  • Good to know that the Pledge product can actually be reused!
