Groundhog

Okay, forget the mole problem I had. We have a worse problem. We have a ground hog digging around our foundation. We've got a huge HUGE hole under our patio concrete slab and we have found three holes on the opposite side of our house. The big rodent is really getting around! And I'm not happy about it.

DH doesn't want to shoot him, he'd prefer we trap him and transplant him.  I'm not so sure that's going to be easy. Plus, I don't believe theirs just one. We only see one at a time, but I'm willing to bet there are more.

Anyone have advice on live trapping? Otherwise...I think we 're going to have to shoot him.  That's what all our neighbors are telling us we have to do because they've already been thru this. And no...he's not protected in these parts.  You can shoot groundhog in Iowa.  We've already checked.

We're also reconsidering getting another dog.  With Bessie around, we didn't have this critter problem.

Re: Groundhog

  • Eek! Bless your hearts for having to go thru this. What about animal control or a local pest control company? We have issues with raccoons here and our local pest control companies will trap them.

I'd certainly get another dog. Dual functions - keep pests away and lovable. When I lived in a house with a crawlspace, we had problems with mice. My cat proved to be quite adept at catching them for us. She's certainly proved her worth!
