Adult Acne Product Suggestions??

I have struggled with acne all my life and it finally went away in college. However, recently I have been struggling with adult acne, which is not near as bad as teenage acne!

Anyway, I'm really opposed to sticking all kinds of chemicals on my face, does anyone have suggestions for "green" acne solutions?

Re: Adult Acne Product Suggestions??

  • I had intense pulse light therapy done. it's expensive. It didn't really work on my cystic acne. Although I did see some difference. I also went to a naturopath where they did the IPL and was put on vitamin A and an elimination diet. Neither worked, but I had very bad cystic acne.
  • Did your acne finally go away on its own, or are you still dealing with it?
  • i had hormonal acne for about 2 months. i never really had acne as a teen. i bought the island rx foaming face wash from keys soap. it is for sensitive skin and i have been using it every day for a month. it cleared up the acne and my DH says my skin has never looked so good.

it is definitely worth it. i have also read great reviews by searching google.

  • Not being an acne sufferer myself, from what I hear, a lot seems to vary depending on the cause of your acne. Some acne is more hormonal based and some is your skin being out of balance (using harsh cleansers for example and then your skin overcompensates), the latter being easier to deal with.

I know that several of the 'greener' companies (to varying degrees) have acne products, like Burt's Bee's and Zia.

I would never say that I've had much of an acne problem, but I've always struggled with the occassional pimple - smaller ones here and there and then the occasional one from hell - and blackheads around my nose, and these have all stopped since I went to oil cleansing. Some people have good success doing the oil cleansing method to deal with their acne, but for others it doesn't help at all.

Gosh... not sure that was a very helpful post lol. I think it can be tough to find the right methods for you. What works for one person doesn't for another! What is your current skin care routine?

  • I've been doing OCM and it has dramatically helped my skin.  I've always had acne of vary levels of severity over the years.  OCM has reduced the number of breakouts and improved my skin texture.  I use 40% castor oil to 60% olive oil.  I just started OCM about 2 months ago.

  • iIve had acne since I was about 11 years old, and tried every drugstore and prescription (except accutane).  Since February I've been using the Pretika with Cetaphil in the morning, OCM with castor/grapeseed/tea tree oils at night, and using a homemade aspirin mask a couple nights a week.  For the first time since childhood, I don't have pimples.
  • Thank you all for your suggestions. Unfortunately, I've been on accutane in the past and have not had acne issues until now. It's so frustrating. I thought I was beyond this.

Just for clarification is OCM, over the counter medicine? If so, what types?

    No Smile Oil Cleansing Method.

You rub oil on your face, put a warm washcloth on until it cools, and wipe off.

You can use various oils and oil mixes. I had coconut oil and use that and it works for me. I had a bad reaction to grapeseed oil. Jojoba oil is supposed to be the closest to natural skin oils. There's a website that talks about it called www.theoilcleansingmethod.com

  • I also have adult acne and just went to the dermatologist about it. I'm on a couple of creams and an anti-biotic. These are the only things that have worked for me in the 4 years that I have been dealing with acne.  I'm not aware of any "green" treatments.
  • I'm a Tea Tree oil fan. I put a drop on each spot before bed and this helps clear up my skin.
