Sure! Products are not needed to compost. You can do a simple pile on/in the ground. If you really want a bin, you can make one out of an old trashcan or Rubbermaid container. For an indoor crock to hold our scraps until you take them out, you can buy one or you can just use an empty sour cream container with a lid. Here are my blog entries on composting. It really is easier and simpler than I'd thought before I started!
We have a dog who would love to rut around in an open bin, so we got an enclosed one for $25 on craigslist. We bought this compost crock for holding scraps, I wanted something pretty. But any sealed container will work. Composting is easier than you think!
LOL thanks! I bring it right in front of the cutting board every time I make dinner and all our scraps go in it, so it had to look nice. It was definetely a splurge though.
