Ever attend a Nascar Race?

We were given tickets as a gift. I can't say that we are avid race fans, we've watched the races on tv if we are around to catch them, but that is the extent of it. So what should we expect? We were given garage passes and tickets to the Charlotte race. Can you take things in with you? Do we need to be there very early? Someone mentioned that you can leave and re-enter during the race? Is this true? All and any advice would be great ! Thank you!

Re: Ever attend a Nascar Race?

  • We went to a NASCAR race in Atlanta last year for the first time. You should expect it to be LOUD and HOT!! We were in a suite so it wasn't terribly loud, but we walked outside to the stands and it was unbelievably loud! Most people had on ear plugs of some sort.

We had the passes to the pits also, but the kind where you had to leave before the race started. It was really neat to go and experience it at least once. There *may* be a dress code for the pit area, I'm not sure about that though, I don't think you could wear flip flops, that type of thing.

Other than that it was boring as hell, made me super sleepy watching them go round and round in circles LOL. I don't know what kind of "things" you would need to take, if you are outside use sunscreen or wear a hat, all we brought was a camera.

  • Yes, I'm married to a NASCAR official so I've attended a few in my day lol

There is a dress code in the pit area, your shirt must have sleeves (though babydoll style t shirts work), you must wear long pants and close toed shoes. The May Charlotte race is a hot and long day because it's the longest race of the year. My advice is go to in to the pits and then go back to your car and change if the weather forecast is going to be hot. You can leave and re-enter as you please and you can bring in a small cooler but you can't bring in glass bottles. You can also bring in clear bags of snacks or whatever else you might want to bring. It's normally a soft sided cooler only but double check Charlotte's web site. Bring something to sit on to save your butt. When the race gets boring it's time to people watch, there's always something entertaining going on in the stands.

If you have any more questions just let me know. Charlotte is a good track to go to and the city is awesome.

  • We have been to a bunch of Nascar races, and will be going to Charlotte on Memorial Day weekend this year..it will be our 3rd in a row!

I would suggest getting there early, there is so much to do outside the track before the race.  they have a lot of vendors/displays outside and they are always giving away free stuff.   If you have pit passes, you will need to be there early for those anyhow.    You definitely want to beat the traffic as it is always bad just before the race!

One of the things we love about Nascar races is that you can bring in your own food/drinks.  Each of us brings a cooler in filled with beer/water/soda.  Like the pp said, no glass bottles.    We also bring in lots of snacks and sometimes sandwiches.  We camp right at the track at Charlotte so we usually BBQ before going in so we don't need that much food...but it is a long race!

It is definitely loud at the track...bring some earplugs if you can.  I suggest trying to get down close to fence during the race, you will be amazed at how fast the cars go by you!  It is such a cool feeling!!

Have a great time...we love going to Charlotte for the races!

  • I've only ever been to the Phoenix Raceway and that was a couple years ago, I know they had some restrictions on what you could bring in. For example you weren't permitted to bring in alcohol or glass bottles. The restrictions will probably vary from track to track and from area to area (like if you are camping the rules may be a little different than if you are in the grandstands.) You may want to check out the track website (below).  I do suggest bringing earplugs or headsets for the noise as it does get awful loud, and a jacket incase you get a little chilly (I don't remember if it's a night or day race either way you'll want the jacket) Hope that helps.
