I am a lurker with a mole problem. At least that is what I think it is.
I know there are moles our backyard due to the trails they dig. I filled them in and the hole/trails came back within a day or two. I also have grass and plants that die after being planted. I have treated the lawn for grubs using the milky spore a few weeks ago. I need something to get rid of the moles that are active since we are planting seed and plants all over again. I also have a dog so pet friendly would be a plus.
Re: Moles
We sell quite a bit of Mole Max at our store. Customers swear by it. It's a repellent made with castor oil.
It will take a while for mlky spore to multiply enough to put a dent in the grubs....but it eventually will.
The pinwheels just move the moles or voles around. If you don't have a very big yard it may work but you're just moving them to your neighbors (I'm sure they will like that!). We have a few acres of land and it just made them move to new locations (aka. even more yard damage).
A family friend is an exterminator and he swears by the poisonous gummy worms. They are expensive but very effective. You burry them in recently dug holes and hope they eat them. Not dog friendly but if you only have a few you may be able to get to all of them while you walk your dog on a leash for a week or two. Otherwise the bubble gum trick does work (I've always heard Juicy Fruit) but it's not very effective. My parents tried this and it helped slightly but didn't get rid of all of them.
HTH.
