Help!

So we're having a pretty good sized party (about 50 people) on Saturday.  We're having a BBQ so burgers & dogs, baked beans, salads, etc.

There's no way I have enough regular plates, sliverware & cups for everyone.  Do I (A.) buy more plastic plates, silverware & cups or (B.) buy some paper plates, plastic sliverware and plastic cups and make sure everyone throws their stuff in the recycling bin instead of the trash?

Re: Help!

  • If you will do this more than once, buy something cheap but reusable and fire up the dishwasher.

If this is a one-off event, recycle.

  • We're almost ALWAYS the hosts for the parties we have in our circle of friends.  I guess it makes sense to just buy some cheap plastic plates and keep them on hand.  I think Walmart (*gasp*) has plastic plates four for $1.  I guess I could pick up a bunch of those. :-/  Hmm...
  • We still have some cheap plastic stackable cups my sister bought for her wedding almost a decade ago.

I think if you do this a few times a year, just buy some plastic plates and cups and some 4/$1 cutlery (which Walmart or dollar stores also have, and it's metal).

  • In my groups we always just use compostable stuff paperware, and then regular silverware.

Used paper plates, plastic silverware etc are not recyclable. Well, maybe the cups and silverware, but def not paper plates.

Our recycling company takes plastic silverware and cups but not paper plates.  I think we're going to just go with cheap reusable stuff.

    Thanks, ladies!

  • If you have an ikea near you, you should check them out, especially for the silverwear.  You can get simple, but not crappy-looking, silverwear for super cheap.
