Ipad

Can anyone tell me about it?  What's so great about it?

Any good websites for reviews?

TIA

Re: Ipad

  • I played with one. It was pretty cool, but I won't be getting one. I have a laptop and an iPhone....it's just overkill for me.

But everyone that I know that has one LOVES it.

  • DH & I picked up the 32G last week at Best Buy and we like it so far. That being said there are only a few apps out although most iphone apps work on it.

We downloaded ibooks app and it came with a free book, Winnie the Pooh. But it's enough to get a handle on how the reader works which is pretty cool and you can download free sample of books too, Most of the free book are classics.

Also the Netflix apps works with your netflix account and I did use it to watch a movie while DH played the PS3. Surfing the net is a lot better than using my touch and it's nice to have a bigger screen when cooking from a online site.

DH is using it more for IT aspects to se what it can do. Remote control machines and things like that. ONe of the reasons we got it was DH sold his MBP and we don't have the money to get a new one just yet. So we are testing it to see how much we can push it. It's not a prem. replacement but will do in the mean time.

It sounds great and looks really good. I was a a friend B-day party this past weekend and brought it with me and had 2 people tell me they are going to get it now after playing with mine. :)

What I like about it. It's so nice to sit on the sofa and not have a laptop on my lap. Easy to move around with and can go easily where you go. It fits in my purse, but I have a bigger purse. I love my touch but have always wanted it to be a bit bigger so I could use some of my apps easier. We're thinking of making a wall mount in the kitchen so I have a place to put it when I'm cooking. Then I don't have to print or use my touch for my online recipes or I can use it to remote into our Imac so I can access my recipe manager there.

Downside so far is sometimes the WiFi seems to drop out but it is easy to get it back, just can be a pain but it's maybe 1 time a day if that. Battery life is OK depends on what apps your using can bring it down, but charge is pretty fast.

    Hope that helps.

  • Have one, LOVE it. I have an iPhone and a Mac Book Pro as well, and they're both feeling neglected. :) When I get home in the evening, I don't unpack my laptop; instead I work on the iPad, where I can Twitter, e-mail, play games, watch movies, type up notes, do website wireframes... a ton of stuff, without having to open my laptop. At work, I set it up in the dock next to my laptop and use to to reference technical manuals (I have lots of books in ePub format, which is what iBooks uses, and Kindle books) while I work on my main computer. And the phone feels so tiny now! I'm still using it, but for things like texting, phone calls, checking in on Gowalla... utility things more than creation and consumption tasks. Currently at 70 apps and counting. :)
  • I LOVE my iPad. DH got it for me about a week ago and I've been playing with it non stop. It's awesome being able to sit on the couch with it since it's so light weight. If the dog jumps up there with me it's a lot easier to move out of the way.

The tv watching ability on it is great as well. I watch my netflix movies and a LOT of tv shows are avail on other apps too. We also figured out a way to hook the ipad up to the tv so whatever I'm playing on the ipad shows on our tv. :)

I pre-ordered one but because of the volcano, I couldn't fly over to pick it up until a few days ago. I bought it because I've been wanting an iPhone, but it's too big for me to carry around in my pocket as a normal phone. At home, when we need to check something online, it's so much easier to use the iphone than to boot a computer, but the screen is small, and I'm not a huge fan of the little keyboard. The iPad is going to be our go-to machine for instant browsing. Now that I've started playing with it, I'm surprised by how much I like being able to hold it more like a book than a laptop (especially when i don't have a lot of typing to do). Since I watch most of my tv on the computer anyways, this is a convenient piece of hardware for doing that. Since I've been considering an iPhone, a net book, and an e-reader, the iPad filled my personal gadget niche perfectly. And it's just so sexy to use, that anyone who picks it up seems to fall in love with it (but I move in a very tech-centric circle! Haha!)

PS - with the amount of time I spend on the Nest, it would be awesome if the Nest worked better with the iPad! (hint, hint, Nest gods!)
