Need a Vinegar Cheat Sheet

Yes, I know its bad form to be lazy like this, but I have to start somewhere.  I want to use vinegar and baking soda more (but not together!) and I'm not sure about bleach? Is there a cheat sheet a can start with? Like use 1 tbsp of this to clean that and one cup for laundry and so forth?

I want to try to move away from commercial cleaners, but in all honesty, in this point in my life, its only going to happen if I can make the switch without too much time invested.

TYVMIA!

Re: Need a Vinegar Cheat Sheet

  • The Vinegar Institute has been really helpful for me. Lots of great info. You really just need a bit of time to get going in the right direction --it doesn't require too much time investment once you know where to look!

  • I would stay away from bleach -- it's not necessary and it's pretty scary stuff (i'm not sure if you were asking about bleach use guidelines or alternatives).  vinegar is great because it is cheap (try costco) and if you use too much, it doesn't really matter (beside being wasteful) because it is nontoxic and doesn't damage the things you clean with it.

Also, it's fine to clean with vinegar and baking soda together.  It's a great trick for clearing drains: pour soda in drain, add vinegar and rinse with hot water.

  • I use a spray bottle with 3:1 water to vinegar (sometimes I do 1/2 and 1/2) and use that to clean everything (glass, tile, etc.).  I sprinkle a healthy amount (no measuring) in the toilet and then follow with straight vinegar to clean it.  I don't use bleach but I do use peroxide sometimes.  HTH!
