  • I like Almond milk! I think I'm lactose intolerant, so I'm exploring alternatives. In fact, I brought some for my cereal today. You're right-it doesn't have a funny aftertaste like soy. I've made lattes with it, but it's super light and almost water-y tasting. But the vanilla one is super yum. My next venture is Rice Milk which I've heard is good.

Pacific brand is super local, too, so I buy their brand of non daity milk (as well as their broths).

  • We love it. Especially the vanilla flavored. I think it tastes like a milk shake :)

I use it in my oatmeal most often, but it's great plain too!

  • I looove regular milk, so I buy Organic Valley.  DH makes his own Almond milk, and he really likes it.  All the almond milk brands we've seen in stores have a bunch of crap in them like sugar and various preservatives, that's why we make our own.  He put it on oatmeal.

  • I have been wanting to try it...perhaps I will pick some up on Sunday now that I have had some convincing!

SD: jealous that Pacific is local to you - I <3 their creamy tomato and butternut squash soups, and the 1-cup portions of broth!

  • I've thought about making my own, but what do you do with the almond pulp? I'd hate to waste it!

Almond "hummus" or almond cookies/crackers. Some good ideas here...

  • Also, to the OP- I LOVE using the unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze in my green monster smoothies. I think it gives it just the right amount of "sweet" that regular milk doesn't have.
  • Wow so easy to make yourself - thx for the link!

No offense to those of you who follow a raw diet, but some of those recipes made me gag.  There's no way that adding cumin to almond pulp will make it taste just like taco meat.

Yeah, it made me gag as well.

My DD just eats the almond pulp :) Sometimes plain, sometimes mixed in with her oatmeal or yogurt.

  • I love almond milk - it is usually the only "milk" that I will drink.  I usually buy the unsweetened Almond Breeze.

I can't have the slightest amount of animal milk, as I am extremely lactose intolerant (I don't get a little gassy or something, I get very sick).  As I am vegetarian, there is already more than enough soy in my diet, so I prefer not to use soy milk.

Plus, almond milk seems to blend smoother into coffee and I love the taste.  I don't remember cow's milk ever tasting that good!!

  • My husband loooooves alomond milk. We also use hemp milk and coconut milk. yum
  • I've never tried hemp milk, maybe I should give it a shot?

I'm not a fan of rice milk - when I've tried it is seems too sweet and watery.

I think I'll have a tough time straying from my almond milk.  I just wish that there was almond yogurt!

  • has anyone made almond milk without agave?  i'm thinking a bit of maple syrup or raw honey for some sweetness?

Ugh, god, no doubt. However, I did try the "hummus" and though it's obviously not the same as regular hummus, it's still a good dip! :)

Oh, shoot! I forgot to mention that I don't use agave but do use raw honey. It turns out awesome.

  • Downside to almond milk= only 1gm protein/8-oz

    Regular milk= 8gm protein/8-oz

    Not very filling.
