We used 4 kinds of compost, then 1/3 peat and 1/3 vermiculite. Plants have been in the beds for 2 days and do not look good. More are wilting a bit. I have watered them some and we are going to get rain tomorrow, I'm hoping that will help them perk up.
I will cry if we lose all these plants!

Re: nervous about Mel's Mix
I don't think it's mel's mix. Did you start the plants yourself? If so, did you harden them off first?
I'm sure they'll be fine.
That is Mel's Mix. I transplanted a bunch of plants a few weeks ago and even though they were hardened off it still took over a week for them to look "happy" in the square foot garden.
I will say water them WAY more then you think. The first week I thought I was watering enough, but when I dug down a bit the mix was dry. A few weeks later this is becoming less of an issue and the soil seems to hold the water better. I'm guessing it was because the compost and peat were both VERY dry when we put them in the box.
thanks guys! we did not start the plants ourself, got them at a local plant sale, they had been hardened.
I will continue to water and pray, lol!
