tulips question

Hi ladies,

I'm coming out of lurkdom to ask a question.  I bought a container of yellow tulips (I love tulips!!) to use as a centerpiece on my dining room table for a luncheon I was hosting, and they looked great!  But now all the petals have fallen off and I'm just left with stems and what appears to be buds.  Will these rebloom this year or are they done?  Should I transplant them to a spot outdoors?

Re: tulips question

  • They're done.  I'd stick then in the garage until fall, then plant them outside.  I love tulips, too!  But so did the deer this year...=(

  • they are done, but I would keep them in a sunny place (ie, not your garage unless your garage gets a lot of light) until the leaves turn brown.  They need to store up energy for next year if you want them to bloom again..
  • You can store them and plant them in fall, but store them in a cool, dry place where they don't get light.

I suggest taking them out though and planting the contents of the container right in the ground now.  They should do fine, pull nutrients from the ground from now until they come back next spring.
