The more that comes out about it, the more upset I get. I can't believe how many lives both human and animal this whole thing is turning upside down. And watching them do those "controlled burns" makes me irrate! I know that it is deemed necessary, but what a waste. The thing is spewing out tons of oil as we sit here, and there is nothing being done aobut it. We're going to see the so called "fragile coast" of Lousiana turn into the barren coast.

I would like to personally thank you for going out there and putting feet to the ground in such a real way!
BTW, I love your blog! For some reason it isn't giving me the option to follow, computer glich I guess, but I'm going to check back so that I can!
I thought maybe this would be the place to inquire about the oil spill. Does anyone have suggestions on how to help? I feel like I need to do something, in Maryland I'm limited in what I can do but I'd like to at least make a contribution to an organization that will be helping with the cleanup. Or maybe even help out physically if there are organizations who need volunteers to travel down? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Here are some contacts for Alabama. Not sure about the other states. The true severity of the situation won't be know for a while, but they're definately gonna need lots and lots of volunteers across the 4 states.

I completely agree with you Saxgrl, well said. I feel so helpless, just sitting her waiting for this horrible thing to happen. I'm still scarred from seeing pictures of the Exxon-Valdez oil spill when I was 6. All those poor birds, fish, and turtle, dying from not being able to breathe or swim, not to mention the huge impact to their reproduction, which they're just now started to recover from, 21 years later. I was so upset, and to this day I do NOT buy gas from Exxon. Now I'll have to add BP to that. It makes me so angry that oil companies have no contigency plan or remediation measures to take care of something like this. They built these rigs under the faulty assumption that nothing bad will ever happen. And if it does, well hell "the government will take care of it." This is BP's fault! They should be spending every dime they have to fix it, instead they're requesting aid and equipment from the government and Coast Guard. Spend all the money you've got to go out and fix your mess you A-HOLES! Arrrgghh!
What rrreeallly irritates me too is that while Senators are currently questioning Obama's offshore drilling plan (which is great), it won't last. Congress has the attention span of a fvcking goldfish. Once gas hits $3 a gallon this summer just from increased demand for summer vacations, Congress will be screaming at Obama about how he hasn't brought the price of oil down by increasing supply. And I'm sure he'll be like "ummm because you said offshore drilling was bad?" and he'll be the bad guy, not Congress's flip flopping. The whole situation is really terrible.
here's a link to more information on the rescue efforts and you can donate through paypal to help.

I agree. Well said. I also wonder about the health of those of us who live on the Gulf Coast. Surely it can't be good for us to breathe all those toxins in the air, not to mention thee toxins in the soil and water. I'm really distraught over this whole mess, and I feel like I'm just sitting here waiting as well. My friends on the MS coast (I'm on the AL coast), said they could already smell the oil this morning. I guess it's only a matter of time before we can, too.
