Where to buy non farmed shrimp?
Does Whole Foods have non farmed, preferably US shrimp? I checked their website and it was non specific about their seafood origins (or I just wasn't looking in the right place).
After reading Bottomfeeder I have become very leary of seafood in general. Especially salmon and shrimp. The descriptions on those "aquacultures" are pretty gross.

I agree those aquacultures are pretty gross. Rather than going for one type of each seafood, I use the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch Guide. The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program helps consumers and businesses make choices for healthy oceans. Their recommendations indicate which seafood items are "Best Choices," "Good Alternatives," and which ones you should "Avoid." Seafood Watch recommendations don?t hinge on any single issue. Instead, they consider the fishery, habitat, species, management, and a host of other factors that affect each species.
They have a guide for every region, it's great! I have it in my purse so when I go to the seafood counter I can see if I should (for example), go with the farmed salmon (avoid) or Wild alaskan salmon (best choice).
P-L-E-A-S-E, I beg you, regardless of what seafood choices you make, DO NOT EAT ORANGE ROUGHY. Orange roughy lives 100 years or more?so the fillet in your freezer might be from a fish older than your grandmother! Years of heavy fishing have decimated orange roughy populations. Although there are fishery management plans in place, scientists predict it could take decades for populations to recover. Another concern with orange roughy is the way it?s caught. Bottom trawls are problematic, causing damage to seafloor habitat, especially in the fragile, deep-sea ecosystems where orange roughy live. For these reasons, orange roughy are ranked as a species to ?Avoid.?

My whole foods has it. My Kroger and Publix also carry it, it's just sometimes in a smaller or larger shrimp than I like and it's mostly frozen. I keep some in the freezer for a quick scampi or to toss on top of a salad though.
