Commute to Ft. Worth from Denton

Hi Ladies,

I am interested in a job in Ft. Worth (specifically Saginaw) but my apartment lease in Denton is not up until Dec. 31. The school I'm looking at is an estimated 42 minutes from Denton. How long would the commute be if I took 35W around 7 AM and then on my way home around 5 PM? Thanks for any help!

Re: Commute to Ft. Worth from Denton

  • I live in Keller near 35W and from my experience, that highway can be a nightmare at times. The problem is that they narrow it to two lanes each way up near Keller and farther north. This is ridiculous considering the amount of traffic that comes through here. I've even had bad backups at 3pm going both ways. I avoid it like the plague around 5pm. That is just my .02.
  • Well darn it. Thanks for your response, it's really helpful! I suppose there are no "back ways?"
  • You *could* take 377 all the way down, I suppose. Not sure if that would be much faster though since there are tons of traffic lights, but it might be. Google says it would take 53 minutes, but that's in optimal time.
  • I live right off of 35 and 820 and I avoid 35 if at all possible between 7am-10a and 4-7pm. I work a 10 hour shift at work with off hours just so I can avoid the traffic in the area...

  • We live right off of 35 in Keller also and avoid that highway most of the time.  There is some construction right now that takes 35 down to one lane between Basswood and maybe Golden Triangle or further (southbound direction). Not sure how long that will last.

IMO a 50-60 minute commute isn't all that bad.  My drive every day is between Keller and DFW and I take a combo of back roads and highways.

Do you think you'll move out this way when your lease is up? The area is great out here :-)

  • I'm not sure how far into Ft. Worth you'd be going because I'm not 100% familiar with that area. We live off 380 just east of Denton. My H works in Forth Worth right next to Texas Motor Speedway. He takes 380 (University) to 35 to 35W. He works 9-5 and rarely hits any traffic. It takes him about 40 minutes.
  • I think it would definitely be do-able temporarily!  My dh commuted from Denton to very west fort worth (Benbrook area) for several months like that.  It's not something you'd want to do permanently.  If it's Saginaw, you will be able to exit 35 pretty close to where it really starts backing up regularly...like at North Tarrant, Basswood or probably even 287 and do backroads to the school.

  • Thank you all for your very helpful comments. I still have to get an interview.. and then the job of course.. but right now that's the only open position in the North Texas area!

Can't remember who asked but yes! My husband and I would love to move to the Justin/Argyle/Keller etc. area when our apartment lease is up. We've even considered trying to find a place in November so that we don't have to take one day to move.
