Tell me about Riverside??
Hi Ladies,
I know Riverside isn't San Diego, but it looks like it's pretty close so I was hoping to get some opinions. We currently live in NY and are looking to move. My fiance has a the opportunity to apply for a promotional position in Riverside. I checked out some real estate, and it looks like the cost of living is comparable to where we are now, in Long Island. What is the community like? Is it a nice place to live? Pros and cons?
Thanks!

Re: Tell me about Riverside??
One word: YUCK! (NO offense if anyone here is from Riverside). The heat, OH the heat, the constant construction on the maze of freeways, the traffic, the housing isn't the greatest nor the nicest neighborhoods, and I don't think the job situation there is terric, either.
it is close to the San Bernadino Mountains, which I see as one of the few positives.
Those are just my opinions about it...I think it's really nothing like San Diego (and it's about 1 hr or more away from SD). Temecula is a better area, that is still close enough to San Diego for work, and a much nicer, lower housing cost area.

Yeah, Riverside isn't the greatest.
However, I also believe that where you live is about the community you have there. I went to college in Oklahoma - all of my San Diego friends and family thought I was crazy. But I LOVED it because of the friends I made.
My point is that there are a lot of people who live in Riverside and I'm sure they are enjoying life. I think if you don't mind hot weather and yes, traffic, then you might look into it. Especially if the job opportunity you DH has is really great. There are pros and cons to every location.

A lot of people love Redlands, which is close to Riverside.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
I got married in Riverside and its about 90 minutes north of Downtown SD on a good day with NO traffic. While the cost of living is slightly cheaper than SD, their weather is NASTY! Its one of the smoggiest places in SoCal so there is always a nasty haze hanging over the city.
The good things- there is a UC school there so there will be the typical college businesses in the area. You are super close to Ontario Airport....much easier to deal with than LAX. There are some beautiful old craftsmans style homes in the area.
You will have better luck on the Inland Empire Board on the Knot or the OC board on the Nest.
