Help me feel better re. dirty dozen/clean 15

Am I doing enough?  Am I deluding myself?

With 2 small kids I don't have the time to go to different grocery stores.  In fact I haven't even been getting milk and eggs from my local farmer bc with DD being a carseat screamer, even 1 extra stop is too much.

So.  What I do is go to the co-op most weeks and then every 3rd or 4th week go to Cub (the regular grocery).  I don't specifically buy certain things at each store-  I can't plan that far ahead.  I just buy whatever we need that week.  I go to Cub when I feel like walking (it is just a few blocks) or when I need stuff that the co-op doesn't have (it is very small and there are random stuff they don't stock).

When I go to Cub I buy stuff organic if possible but the selection is limited.  And I always feel guilty when I buy something like strawberries at Cub.

  • We can't all be perfect and have the best resources available to us 24/7. Do what you can do with what you have. And wash 'em really well. :)

  • Do what you can.  Also, coops are even more receptive than conventional grocery stores to customer suggestions (esp. if you are a member).  Tell them what you need and they may be able to stock it.  Also, request organic items at the regular grocery store -- they probably don't carry those things b/c they don't think people want them, but if people want them, and tell them, then they might become available to you.

  • You can only do what you can, I wouldn't beat yourself up about it.  I do try really hard to buy the Dirty Dozen organic, but even I (who goes to the Farmer's Market and two grocery stores every weekend) can't always do it.  Like I hardly ever get organic peppers. Nobody has them and if they do they're twice as expensive as conventional.
