Help me choose a flower

I want to plant some flowers around our mailbox, but I can't decide what to plant. I live in Alabama in zone 7 and would something that will bloom at least almost all summer. We already have irises, daisies, and daylilies already planted in our yard. Any suggestions?

Re: Help me choose a flower

  • One suggestion that comes to mind: 'Red Prince' Wiegela. They don't bloom all summer, but they're showy and they produce an abundance of blooms that last for weeks. They're easy to grow and easy care and can be pruned to keep their stature in check. We had a large wiegela in our entry garden at our former home and it always received compliments--everyone wants one once they see them in bloom!

They bloom mid- to late-summer and stay green well into fall (even here in Illinois). You could fill in the late-spring/early-summer with low growing annuals that will produce blooms after the bulbs you already have are done for the season and before the wiegela begins to bud.
