Have any of you ever used Karo syrup for constipation in your baby? If so how long until the babe had a poo? My doc recommened it yesterday and we put a tbsp in his bottle last night thinking, he have a b/m this am when he awoke, but nothing so far...so I put another tbsp in his last bottle, still nada...how long can I keep doing this? I guess I can call my doc, but just wondering if anyone has any experience with this...I am not overly worried b/c he did have a b/m yesterday afternoon, but it was small and hard, so I am sure he's got more in there LOL. Just curious!
Re: A ? for the Moms
Hi Crissy- see I was back on this board for a reason.
I used to have to do this for Madison. I can't remember how much I added (1 tsp or 1 tbsp) - but I did add it to a bottle a day for her (per her pedi). We finally stopped doing it once she really started table food. She used to have bm issues all the time. Things like that don't tend to "fix" things overnight. I would give it like 2 more days. If you are concerened or if Jack's abdomen is hard- they do sell children's laxative drops (made from vegetables) so baby safe. Those did used to work fairly fast.
Follow my SK blog as I reread the entire SK library (again!):

Owen has had lots of constipation problems. However, his pedi never suggested the karo syrup. Their first recommendation was prune juice (diluted of course). O refused to drink that (who can blame him?) so they next recommended any white juice (pear, white grape, apple etc). He would drink that, but still wasn't a huge fan. What we ended up doing was adding a little bit of extra water & a little bit of juice to each bottle of formula.
Whatever you use probably won't work overnight. Owen is about to start his 3rd "Rx" for constipation & they have all said that they may take 2-3 days to take effect.
It sounds like you already know, but in a baby it really isn't how often they go but what the stool is like when they do go. O often goes 4-6 times/ day, but his stool is still very hard & formed. As his pedi used to say "rabbit poop" is constipation in babies.
Hope little Jack feels better soon, it is no fun!
ETA: If you can, give it to him in the morning. That way his digestive system is awake & working & you will see results sooner (& during the day). Both Owen's pedi, GI & my GI recommend this w/ any type of laxative.
We have done the diluted pear juice
Good luck!
