NC Nestie, visiting San Diego - any recs?

Hi there!

My DH and his buddy are running the Rock & Roll marathon in San Diego in June.  The wives are tagging along for the trip too.  What are some of the must do things in the city?

We're staying near the starting line for the race.  We also want a nice restaurant to go to for at least one meal.

I'd love some recommendations for places to go and eat.

Thanks!

Speed

  • Not sure where the race is starting -- is it downtown again?

For a great low-key night out, I'd recommend The Field. It's an Irish pub downtown. Friends of our just took us there a few weeks ago for the first time, and DH & I loved it.

  • I believe it's starting in Balboa Park?  I'll have to double check.  Thanks for the rec!
  • Balboa Park and the Zoo (they are connected) is a must!  Also, downtown La Jolla is a great place to walk around (especially on Sunday at their Farmer's Market).  The Gaslamp in downtown San Diego is a bit pricey but very fun for food and nightlife (especially if you are staying downtown).  There are also a lot of Harbor Cruises that are fun if you want to be on the water.  For beaches, I would recommend Coronado or La Jolla Shores.  HTH!  Let us know if you have any more specific questions :D

  • There's a restaurant in Balboa Park called The Prado that has great food and wonderful ambiance, especially at night.  That'd be my top recommendation for a nice place to eat while you're here.  Enjoy your visit!
