EF kids bday parties?

I already have green and blue plastic reusable plates and cups. My daughter's first bday party is this Saturday and I am just starting to think about decorating for it. It's ladybug theme but I really am against buying all paper goods to make the theme come together. I was thinking ladybug napkins (because I don't have enough cloth), and buying a red or white reusable table cloth.

Then there are the stupid party favors....how I hate party favors and the obligation that comes along with them. I am all done with the days of going to the dollar store to buy a boat load of crap to put into bags that no kids uses anyway. Soo.....I was thinking ladybug chocolates????

Please help! What are your tips and  tricks?

Oh and at her Christening last year, it was the first party that I had my reusable plates and cups. people still threw them in the trash! I dug in and got them out.....dumasses!

Re: EF kids bday parties?

  • I have heard of requesting that instead of guests bringing gifts, they bring something to donate.. like to a local animal shelter or something. I thought that was a great idea, especially for really young kids.

  • While I don't have kids of my own yet, I do however research alot for friends and family on eco friendly, well anything!! :) Try Eco Child's play or Enviro Mom, they are web sites all about being green and a parent! I like the idea for crayons as a favor and I think your idea for lady bug chocolate is great! What kid doesn't love candy or chocolate?!

I think that if you have a few fun games for them to do and some yummy food or dessert, they'll be fine without those silly plastic toys that half will lose in a day!

(I feel your pain on the re-usable plates, I too have dug in my trash for plates and more, only to get irritated with friends and family when they say..what's the big deal?! Argh!! I have now resigned to making signs!)
