Dh and I are doing our first container garden. We went out this morning and there were small, silvery purple flies hanging out all over the plants. We didn't see any damage, and we can't tell if they're attracted to the plants or maybe to other small pests we aren't seeing. I looked at pics of common pests but I'm not sure what these are.
Anyway, part of our desire to grow our own fruits and veggies is to avoid harmful pesticides, so we don't want to use commercial chemicals on our plants. What do you recommend for organic pest control?

You can also just manually remove pests. That's how I handle squash bugs and tomato hornworms. Especially in a small space like a container or square foot garden.
If you want a pest ID, call your local agricultural extension agency or Master Gardener's group,
