Growing your own tomato help

I started my seeds about 2 1/2 weeks ago. They are sprouting beautifully, but I have one issue. I used old egg cartons to plant them in, and the egg cartons are moldy now!

Is this harmful to the plants? Should I scrap them and start buying?

Re: Growing your own tomato help

  • I would just go ahead and transplant them into a bigger container and get rid of the egg cartons.

white fuzzy mold?  i get that a lot when i start seeds indoors.  letting it dry out and a day or two outside in the sun gets rid of it real fast.

do you have drainage holes in the bottom of the egg cartons?  that might help as well.

Yes, white fuzzy, but there's some green in the mold too.

I cut a drainage hole in each one before planting.

I would transplant, but frost isn't over here and they are going to be for a container garden this year. If I tried to transplant them into their containers, my DD would get into them and I fear that is worse than the mold getting there, LOL.
