So I watched 'Food, Inc.'

Now I know why I didn't let myself really consider all this stuff in the past.  It was so sad to see those poor animals, and it was so maddening to hear about those big companies and their horrible practices.  It has definitely opened my eyes a bit.  I am planning to re-watch it to get the full impact, but I think I will have to wait a few days.

Re: So I watched 'Food, Inc.'

  • I still haven't managed to watch it. I'm already angry about those things! I'm not sure my stress-level needs this.

  • I made it through the first half and haven't been able to sit through the rest of it.  I haven't been able to eat a hamburger in over a month because of that 'beef filler' thing.

  • Alisha, for the most part I found it more informative than anger or stress inducing.  I already knew about all the pitfalls about factory farming too, and the film just added to my knowledge.  Only one part made me really angry, it was when workers were sorting baby chicks. They were smushing (and I do mean SMUSHING) them up against this stamp (to mark them as male or female I guess) then throwing them onto a conveyor belt. That was the only time I screamed at the TV.  "That's a living creature, W T H is wrong with you!?!?"

  • Have you ever seen Baraka? The chick part in that is so powerful.

I just get a little overwhelmed with all that I hate in the food and agricultural world. I already am really conscious of what I eat and where it comes from and who I support.

    One of these days!

That was probably the part that bugged me the most too.  That and the cows that couldn't even stand up.  I was so sad for them.

  • I haven't eaten meat since I watched it. I will once we buy our half cow from the local farmer.
  • i watched it last week, and i really loved it...... i did get pissed at the baby chick part too, and was a little upset by a few things (prob. more than a few things actually), but i thought it was super informative and they did a great job with it.  i've been recommending it to everyone i know.

i've been a vegetarian since 2nd grade, so this just basically confirmed all the beliefs i've had since then.
