Best Blog Platform for Nonprofit Org

Hi, my work is starting a blog. We are a fairly small nonprofit (less than 10 people). We will be posting 1-2 times a week at this time. Multiple people will post on the blog. We don't want ads and are willing to pay a small amount to not have ads.

What do you think is the best blog platform to go with? Our website does NOT support a blog so we understand that it will be hosted elsewhere.

Thank you for any guidance offered!

Re: Best Blog Platform for Nonprofit Org

  • I run both my blogs on Wordpress. I use their free service, but for a VERY minimal fee I have the option to buy a domain name and have it link that way as well. They're both listed in my siggy if you want to look at them.

Wordpress offers more flexibility if you want to code/change the layout/etc

Blogger is also good and also offers domain name purchase. It doesn't provide as much flexibility for coding/changing layouts, though.

You say that your existing website will not support a blog. Is that because it's not really your own website and is just some kind of pages on another website?

If you have your own website, even if you don't host it, I don't see why you couldn't set up the blog on your existing site. Software like Wordpress can make it easy to set up this kind of thing.

Otherwise, I believe Wordpress's hosted blogs (wordpress.com vs .org) are also ad-free, and very customizable, so you could probably create something that looked quite professional.

Well, we were hoping we could, but we host it through this company: http://www.stellartechsol.com/sf/ and they said it could not be on our website. I can try to talk to someone else in the development dept and see if I can get a different answer.
