Newbie with a question

I was wonderding if any of you ladies use something more eco friendly to hand wash dishes. We do use the dishwasher, but not for everything. I hate just throwing them away and they are filled with grossness:) any alternatives? TIA!

I should add that I am talking about alternatives to sponges. thanks!

A washcloth. We use it for a day or two and then throw it in the wash and use it again. We have a stack of them that we use for washing and as a replacement for paper towels.

We use dishcloths as well. They're soft enough to use on everything, and they've got a good texture for scrubbing. If I need more scrubbing power I have plastic scrubbers - both a flat edged scrubber meant for stoneware that's great for burnt on spots and a bristled scrubber. Cloths go in the laundry, scrubbers get tossed in the dishwasher.

We use Dobie pads (made by Scotch Brite...most grocery stores carry them).  They're what my mom and grandma used, so it's what I'm used to.  They have an outer scrubby (but non-scratching) plastic layer surrounding a sponge, and I just wash them with my towels.  Eventually they get holey and I replace them, but it takes quite a while.

We use a nylon brush.  The brush is replaceable and the handle reusable.  We clean it in the dishwasher until it's worn out.  For less persistent messes we use crocheted/knitted cloths.  I like them a lot.

We use Twist sponges, which have a sponge on the inside, and super scrubby loofah on the outside.  I get them from Whole Foods.  I think they work great and we've been using them for awhile, but DH doesn't like them.  So once the current one wears out, I'm going to try the microfiber sponges I've also seen at WF.  We use dish cloths for cleaning our cast iron pan though.
