Someone's DH was picky when researching banks.
Who was it? I think he was picky about how it was run, who the bank was associated with, and things I never would have considered when choosing a bank.
Jeff and I have accounts with BOA, and while we've had good experiences with them I know a lot of people haven't. We're thinking about being proactive and leaving them before they can cause drama in our lives. : )
Re: Someone's DH was picky when researching banks.
Oh, and probably the most important part is what bank did he choose?
Thanks!

It totally was...and Key Bank was one of the banks that didn't borrow bailout $$!

Yep, it was Neil. He wanted to find a bank that had ethical practices and good customer service. He was turned off by everything that BofA, WF and the other larger banks were doing so he chose Key Bank.
He really likes them. He also really likes that they greet him as Mr. LastName when he goes into the branch by our house.
LMAO @ Mr. LastName. : ) I don't know if that's important or not, but not taking bailout money is a pretty big deal. Thanks!

ADD: The whole reason he started researching banks was because we couldn't get a CU account.
For us, WF had the best rates for our mortgage. Also, DH travels so much with work that we need to have ATM access throughout WA, OR, and CA.

Aha I see! And financing a mortgage makes sense...we haven't had to do that...yet
Just an FYI --- Credit Unions do shared banking ALL over the place! We still have our MI credit union open and there are tons of credit unions and atms we can go to for free out here. TONS. It just takes a couple of minutes to find a shared CU through your CU's website and you're good to go! The only annoying thing about it is that check's take 2-3 days to clear. For this reason we wanted something local too, so we signed up for OnPoint.

We did a ton of research when we left WaMu (before it became Chase) and ended up at Unitus. We've been there over two years and couldn't be happier! Part of the reason we left is that we couldn't get financing for H's scooter through a big bank. We had the cash but wanted to finance to help build our credit and no one else would give it to us because we had so little credit history. We went to Unitus and at first they turned us down, but when we explained that we have a privately held mortgage that isn't reported and could provide proof of paying as agreed on that, the guy at the CU called the underwriter and explained and we got approved.
The other day, Citibank cancelled our credit card for no reason. Apparently 8 years of no late payments and no balance means you can't handle it anymore Anyway, I called Unitus, explained, did the application over the phone. I hung up with them at 11:30am and we were approved by 2pm. Stopped at the branch on our way home from work and signed the paperwork and should have our new cards next week.
They are just so much easier to work with. Sorry, I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I just wish someone had convinced us earlier that I get all excited and get on my soapbox no matter who is listening. And yes, shared banking is great. Unitus has 28,000 co-op ATMs across the US that are surcharge free, and loads of shared banking branches nationwide. There's een 25 in South Bend, the podunk town where my family lives!
