New Orleans?
DH, DD (she'll be 11mos) and I are going in a month. DH has a work conference so DD and I are tagging along since I've never been. I need ideas of what to do....DH will be tied up all day everyday from 8-5. I'll be with DD so we'll need quick things to do since she still naps twice a day. DH will have one full day off where we can so some sight seeing....any recommendations? FYI-we're staying a few blocks away from the convention center if that helps at all. We're not renting a car since DH will be busy all day. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
Re: Have you been to....
I haven't, but I linked this post to another board I'm on where there are some girls who live in NO - maybe they'll have some suggestions.
Have fun!

There's a lot to do around the area you are staying.
You can go to the Louisana Children's Museum which is a few blocks away. There is also the Aquarium and Insecterium which are located a few blocks from the convention center. We also have a great zoo which you can ride the street car to from downtown (ask the concierge how to pick it up, its pretty easy).
You can go for a ride in the steamboat natchez which is fun to do on a pretty day. Then of course, you can spend hours walking around the french quarter exploring everything. Check out my bio. There should be the blurb in there which I gave to my out of town guests.
Let me know if you have Q's!

I have been, however it was before Katrina, so i'm not sure how much things have changed.
It is pretty easy to walk around, but i'm sure the temps will be hot!! I was there in mid-June and it was hot and humid. So if you do plan to walk around, be cool and comfortable.
We were able to tour the facility where all the floats are stored for Mardi Gras. I don't know how accessible it is to get in though. We were there for a conference, so it might have been planned for us. It was super cool though!
Have fun, it is a wonderful city.

New Orleans is my FAVORITE place in the world and I ditto the rec's given. I was supposed to have gone a couple of weeks ago but couldn't. I love Mardi Gras world and wasn't aware that it had moved.
Take the street car for a ride to the Garden District. You can just ride it back and forth on St. Charles or get off and walk around for a little while. The homes are beautiful. Audobon Zoo is great - she will love it. You can also do a walking tour of the French Quarter. Yes, you can walk around on your own, but if you want to learn a little history there are plenty of tours and usually don't take that long.
I know it will be hot when you go, and very humid most likely. Make sure to have sneakers with you for walking around the Quarter - it can be a little dirty.
I'm so jealous that you're going, but have fun!
