CONGRATS on your little one!! Did he arrive early?
I saw in your other post that you did the midwife practice at St.Joe's. I'm totally getting ahead of myself here, because we just started TTC, but my doctor delivers at St.Joe's so I'm curious about that. I've always wanted to go natural and all that, but I'm not really into the home birth thing and know my DH would never go for it either.
How does the midwife practice work? Do you still see your regular doctor or does the midwife do it all?
Re: ~*PMeg*~
Yes, he was 2 weeks early! But he's perfect and everything is a-okay.
I switched from a regular OB practice to the midwife practice at 20 weeks. I saw the midwives exclusively there, with the exception of one time when they had to move my appointment at the last minute and I saw one of the OBs. I was impressed with the OBs as well. I'd say that if you really want to go natural, talk to your doctor. I was really impressed with the nurses there. They knew we were committed to going natural and they love working with the midwives, so it made it really easy to keep that focus in mind. Just be really clear with your doctor about what you want, and that it is translated over to who ever else works in the practice. My concern with my OB is that the physician on call wouldn't be familiar with my wants during birth and I'd end up medicated and with a bunch of interventions I didn't want. The benefit to the midwives was that they all have the same philosophy so I didn't worry about that.
I loved my birth experience at St. Joe's. Going natural wasn't easy and I actually wondered for a few days afterwords if it was really the right thing to do, but now...I wouldn't have changed a thing.
